James and Sarah Budd, owners of Alpacas of Montana, feel they have one of the best jobs around. In an area of the country known more for cattle ranching than breeding South American camelids, the couple has developed a large, successful alpaca raising operation. The Budds are eager to share the details of their craft with anyone who see their animals at events such as the Bogert Farmers Market. With their soft wool and docile temperament, the alpacas have garnered a loyal following of everyone from toddlers to octogenarians. The business of alpaca raising is beginning to win over many investment-minded individuals in the state as well.
